The Renaissance of Romance, understanding the romantic garden at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 1:30 PM each afternoon during the month of June.

Dating from the 1680s, these are among America’s oldest and most beautiful gardens. And among its most famous. Indeed, at the turn of the twentieth century, they were considered among its premier attractions, along with Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls.

Picturesquely set along the Ashley River about 10 miles from Charleston and endowed with a magnificent landscape of ancient live oaks, tall cypress trees, haunting waterways, enchanting forests, and countless blossoms, Magnolia Plantation offers the essence of the southern plantation garden.

The present fifty acres of gardens are within a vast wildlife refuge. They began in the seventeenth century as ten acres of English-style flower beds and landscaped lawns. Over the years, under the care of successive family heirs (from the very beginning the site has been —and continues to be —owned and operated by the Drayton family), the gardens have grown and evolved into a more naturalistic mode. Lakes and pathways have been added, as have countless colorful plantings along the water, in forests, and in meadows.

Fittingly Titled “The Race of the Decade,” the Ninth Annual TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Features the First Ever Trans-Atlantic Voyage

WHO/WHAT: American Sail Training (ASTA) invites all of Charleston to experience the world’s most majestic tall ships when the “Tall Ships® Atlantic Challenge” disembarks on the Charleston Harbor for the 2009 Charleston Harborfest. Staying from June 26-29, Charleston will represent the first U.S. port to welcome the tall ships after their first ever trans-Atlantic journey as part of the Tall Ships® Atlantic Challenge. Embodied by beauty and mystique, these tall ships hail from several countries including Bermuda, Uruguay, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Romania, Russia and. Spectators attending the event will also have the opportunity to see one of the world’s largest ships -- the 376’ Kruzenshtern of Russia.

The Patriots Point 4th of July Blast!

For a very special fireworks display head to Charleston, South Carolina. Here you can watch the famous Patriots Point fireworks. Where else in the southeastern USA can you see fireworks launched from the flight deck of a WWII aircraft carrier. the USS Yorktown.
The Patriots Point 4th of July Blast kicks off at 4:00 pm and also offers food, beer garden and children's area.

As the sun sets, the stage will heat up with a performance from The East Coast Party Band. one of the Carolinas favorite show bands. Then at 9:30 pm a Charleston Harbor tradition comes to life; fireworks launched from the flight deck of one of America's most famous ships. USS YORKTOWN.
