Charleston Once Again Named A Top Arts Destination

Charleston was chosen as the No. 6 Mid-Sized City Arts Destination by American Style Magazine. The recognition is based on readers’ surveys and is posted annually. This year, the winning cities were deemed National Treasures, and all of the country’s must-see art Meccas were highlighted in the June issue.
The Holy City benefited from its population increase this year, rising from No. 7 on last year’s Small Cities & Towns list to No. 6 on the 2008 Mid-Sized Cities list.
Launched in 1994 by the Rosen Group, the mission of AmericanStyle magazine is to inform craft enthusiasts and art collectors about the significance of handmade objects of art. With every bi-monthly issue, readers enjoy the eclectic lifestyles of artists, the elegant homes of craft collectors and features about "the art of creative living." The Beach Is Back! |

Beach Nourishment Project Complete
Beachside Vacations is extremely pleased to announce that the beach nourishment project was completed on June 26th, a full month ahead of schedule! The beach looks spectacular as we have much more sand than we had at this time last year! In turn, there will be more room for you to relax and enjoy your time here on the island.
The Dredge, "R.S. Weeks," has left the waters surrounding the Isle of Palms. Work will continue as pipes and equipment are removed from the beach, final surveys are completed and the sand is tilled. During construction, a historic, 128-pound cannon ball was excavated onto the beach.
The cannon ball was evaluated by Charleston County and state explosive teams as well as by a historian with the National Park Service. The cannonball was solid cast iron, likely fired from a 10-inch Columbiad cannon during the Civil War.
